Wayan Astika
Born: May 23, 1960
"My designs are inspired by life experience, both from my relationships with family and friends as well as my deep connection to my beautiful home of Bali. I strive in my sculpting to find this link between people and nature, it is important to me both in my family and spiritual life. I am very blessed to now be able to spread my passion and love for art all over the world and thank all of you for your support and kindness."
I Wayan Astika comes from a family with long-standing tradition in Balinese crafts going back for many generations. As a young man he studied and apprenticed as a sculptor before starting his own collection and small gallery. Still based out of his home village, Wayan has very strong ties to his upbringing and background and has started apprenticing young aspiring sculptors and artists in his own village. His passion for his skill, his ability to create innovative and inspired design, and his insistence on perfection in his work, is infectious.
Wayan and his wife recently celebrated the birth of their first grandchild and are excited for their new roles as grandparents! A master carver, Wayan is also a devoted and caring family man.
