Suwetha
Born: December 31, 1951.
"For me, a large part of being a silversmith is honoring and upholding the traditions that have made Bali such a wonderful and creative place for jewelry pieces. I enjoy passing on these traditions and teaching younger aspiring artisans to respect and uphold these traditions that are so important to me."
Mr. Suwetha grew up in Celuk - an area of Bali renowned for its silversmiths and jewelry products. Upon completing school and a lengthy apprenticeship, Wayan started a workshop next to his residence which has grown considerably in recent years. He now employs a number of local artisans to make jewelry pieces workshop and recently built an adjacent showroom in which to display his catalogue of pieces to buyers. His business has grown over the years, albeit modestly, and he is proud to have his two sons help in the upkeep and management of the workshop.
Mr. Suwetha is married with two sons. Having resided in Celuk his whole life, Mr. Suwetha is respected local figure and a prominent member in his local 'Banjar'.
