Ketut Sahir

Born: June 2, 1979

"I like to capture in my carving the natural beauty and mystique of the landscape surrounding me and I feel that is best achieved by using the rich coloring and natural grain of wood. I feel close to the land, to my home of Bali, and I express this in all my pieces."

Raised in a small farming village in Western Bali, Ketut Sahir came from very humble beginnings and learnt carving at a very young age. His father was a rice farmer and taught Ketut basic functional carving of boxes, bowls, and trays mostly for use by the family in their everyday lives. As a young man Ketut apprenticed with a master carver in his village while at the same time assisting his Father, and at the ripe age of twenty had already established himself as one of the leading carvers and craftsman in the region. He is a bright up and coming young artisan who hopes to have his own gallery in the near future. His expert carving, weaving, and innovative designs have gained him considerable notoriety and respect from his peers.

Ketut is an avid badminton player, which is a very popular sport in Indonesia, and helps to organize and partakes in several recreational leagues.
