"I like to capture in my carving the natural beauty and mystique of the landscape surrounding me and I feel that is best achieved by using the rich coloring and natural grain of wood. I feel close to the land, to my home of Bali, and I express this in all my pieces."

Raised in a small farming village in Western Bali, Ketut Sahir came from very humble beginnings and learnt carving at a very young age. His father was a rice farmer and taught Ketut basic functional carving of boxes, bowls, and trays mostly for use by the family in their everyday lives.
